The short version
Source Playbook collects almost nothing. The PDF converter runs in your browser and never uploads your files. There are no third-party analytics or advertising scripts on this site today. The only personal data we hold is what you type into a form — an email address and your message — and we use it only for the purpose you gave it.
1. Who we are
Source Playbook is an independent open source discovery platform operated from Luxembourg. For any privacy request, use the contact form.
2. The PDF to Markdown converter
Conversion happens entirely inside your browser, using the open source pdf.js library loaded from the jsDelivr content delivery network. Your file, its name, and its content are never transmitted to Source Playbook’s servers, never stored, and never analyzed for commercial purposes. Closing the tab removes the document from memory. The CDN that serves the library sees a standard file request from your browser (as for any script on the web), not your document.
3. What we collect, and when
- Newsletter — your email address, stored in our website system (Odoo), used only to send the weekly email. Every email contains an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
- Forms (contact, submit, advertise) — the fields you fill in, stored so we can review and reply. Each form requires an explicit consent checkbox, never pre-ticked.
- Server logs — like every website, our hosting provider (Odoo S.A., EU) keeps standard technical logs (IP address, request time) for security. We do not use them to profile visitors.
- Local tool state — the converter keeps a small technical log in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. It never leaves your browser and you can clear it anytime from your browser settings.
4. What we do not do
- No third-party analytics or advertising scripts are active on this site today. If we ever add privacy-respecting, aggregate measurement, it will be opt-in and this policy will be updated first.
- No sale, rental, or sharing of personal data with third parties.
- No tracking pixels in our emails beyond what the sending system requires to process unsubscribes.
- No collection of the content of documents you convert. Ever.
5. Public data about projects
Rankings and project figures come from the public GitHub API and concern repositories, not people. Maintainer names shown on cards are the public repository identifiers. If you maintain a project and want a correction, write to us.
6. Retention
Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle the request, then archived or deleted within 24 months. You can ask for deletion at any time.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access, rectification, deletion, restriction, and portability of your data, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Send the request via the contact form; we answer within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with the Luxembourg data protection authority (CNPD).
8. Changes
If our practices change — for example, if an opt-in analytics tool or an OCR feature is added — this page is updated before the change goes live, and the changelog records it.
