Free tool
PDF to Markdown
Free, fast, and private. Convert any PDF into clean Markdown you can read, edit, and reuse. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded to any server.
How it works
Drop a PDF on the right. Your browser reads the text layer, rebuilds headings, paragraphs and lists, and hands you Markdown to copy or download. Close the tab and everything is gone.
- Up to 25 MB per file
- Works on phone, tablet, and desktop
- No account, no watermark, no queue
- Scanned PDFs (images without a text layer) are not supported yet

Honest answers
Where does my file go?
Nowhere. The PDF is opened by JavaScript inside your browser tab, using the open source pdf.js library loaded from a public CDN. Source Playbook’s servers never receive the file, its name, or its content. Close the tab and the document is gone from memory.
What do you measure?
Nothing that identifies you, and nothing that leaves your browser. A small local log (stored only on your device) helps the tool remember its own state. There are no third-party analytics scripts on this page. Details in the privacy policy.
What are the limits?
Files up to 25 MB. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. Scanned documents have no text layer, so there is nothing to convert — OCR is on the roadmap, and we will say clearly how it works before shipping it.
Why Markdown?
Markdown is plain text that stays readable everywhere — notes apps, GitHub, documentation tools, AI assistants. Converting reports, papers, and contracts into Markdown makes them searchable, editable, and reusable.
